We are continually focused on how we improve and refine our pre-training program to provide our clients and their equine athlete with a winning experience.

To do this efficiently we must have good systems and procedures, which we do, however we are flexible and adaptable to ensure each horse gets the right attention required to benefit from the program. We can also follow any specific directions given to us by the horses trainer.

So to give you some insight into what we do, below is a typical example of what pre-training can involve at Aquagait:

Body Weight:

Firstly, all horses are weighed every morning as soon as they leave their box and before any exercise. We monitor changes in weight to determine how a horse is progressing and from this when necessary make changes or alterations to exercise routines or their feeding diet.

Week 1:

20-30 minute daily session in water walker

30-45 minutes walking pre & post water walker workout

30-45 minutes walking every afternoon

First time horses will start out at 20mins with no resistance pumps. Most horses progress to 30mins with resistance pumps on within 3-4 days. Experienced horses start at 30mins straight away.

Weeks 2-4:

Trot/Canter on treadmill or under saddle every 2 or 3 days (workout intensity/load gradually increases over the period)

*Rushing in water walker 1-2 times a week

30 minute session in water walker on non treadmill/riding or rushing days

30-45 minutes walking pre & post morning workout

30-45 minutes walking every afternoon

*Rushing in the water walker involves a 5-15-5 or a 5-20-5 program. 5 minutes pre and post in the water at normal speed to warm up / warm down followed by 15 or 20 minutes in between at high speed which gets the horses heart rate exceeding 150bpm and is great cardiovascular workout.

Horses with good residual fitness normally only need up to 4 weeks pre-training before going into full training.

Weeks 5-6 (if required):

Cantering / half pace work every 2nd day on treadmill or under saddle

Rushing in water walker twice a week

30 min water walker workout on all other days

30-45 minutes walking pre & post morning workout

30-45 minutes walking every afternoon

At all times we concentrate on keeping horses relaxed and displaying a good temperament. It is our aim to send all horses into full training in good mental condition and we often get great feedback from trainers and clients on the positive impact we have on a horses temperament.

After 4-5 weeks on this program most horses are ready to commence 3/4 pace work under saddle. With the right balance of water walker conditioning your horse enters full training with excellent core muscle strength and good general improvement in condition and definition across their whole body, additional to the cardiovascular progress that has been made.

We hope to see you soon!

Water Walker Vibes

We have previously dispelled the myth that water walkers are best used for injured or sore horses, that is simply not true. So now let’s explore in more detail how we use our water walker at Aquagait.

General Conditioning

For horses in pre-training or having a freshen up the typical daily exercise routine in the water walker is for 30 minutes at a speed of ~3kph, water depth of 950mm and all 4 resistance pumps on.

A daily exercise routine like this develops core muscle strength, muscle definition and improves cardiovascular fitness. A horses heart rate will normally sit between 70-100bpm throughout the exercise.

Rushing

This type of workout is higher intensity and is mainly used for horses that are a few weeks into their pre-training program or for horses requiring additional cardiovascular exercise with low impact on joints or bone. For this workout a horse will exercise in 3 intervals of 5-15-5 or 5-20-5. The first and last 5 minute interval is as per general conditioning above and the 15 or 20 minutes in between is at 7kph which forces horses to work a lot harder to propel themselves through the water. The resistance pumps prevent any whirlpool and maintain a current for the horses to work against.

Heart rates will reach >150bpm providing a great cardiovascular workout additional to the core muscle strengthening and development. A couple of sessions a week doing this really brings on a horses condition and muscles them up nicely.

Cool Down

After track workout under saddle or a good session on the treadmill a great cool down tool is a 15-20 minute light stroll in the water walker.

For cool down we can slow the speed down and turn the resistance pumps off to allow a nice light workout focused on cooling down body temperature and helping soothe joints and muscles.

Mental Health & Stimulation

It cannot be underestimated just how effective the environment at Aquagait is for relaxing horses and keeping them in a great mental state and our water walker plays a pivotal role in achieving this.

The change up in routine and experience combined with the feeling of being in water is an amazing way to make and keep a horse happy. Young colts, old geldings or highly strung mares, we deal with them all regularly and they all leave Aquagait in an improved mental state.

We hope the above helps provide more insight into how we use our water walker and how it might be able to help you give your horse the conditioning edge.

Thanks for reading!

Managing Arthritis in your Horse

Arthritis is a chronic condition found in many race horses and it is not just older horses that suffer from it. In this article we provide some insight into how alternate exercise in a water walker can help to manage such condition.

Let’s start by defining what is arthritis?

Arthritis is progressive and permanent deterioration of articular cartilage, the specific type of cartilage that lines the ends of bones where they come together to form a joint, such as your horse’s fetlock. Healthy articular cartilage provides a smooth, slippery surface that allows free movement and contributes to the shock-absorbing properties of the joint. As arthritis sets in, articular cartilage becomes compromised, which disrupts the normally smooth surface, causing stiffness and discomfort.

Exercising in water has many proven benefits most of which are also great for helping to manage horses with arthritis.

Firstly the low impact nature of the exercise means that any degradation to cartilage thats occurs in track work is avoided whilst still providing the horse with cardiovascular fitness and building muscle strength at the same time.

Increasing blood flow is another benefit. Exercise in water has been proven to stimulate blood flow which helps in the prodution of new cartilage to reduce cartilage breakdown. Supplementing additional glucosamine into the horses diet at the same time will enhance any benefits. We normally exercise horses for 20-30 minutes in the water and also see noticeable reduction in inflammation.

Finally, controlled exercise in a water walker is great for mobilising joints and freeing up movement. Not only are the benefits physical. Mentally you will see noticeable improvement in your horses attitude as the normal pain suffered for basic movements is reduced or in some cases temporarily removed.

Whilst it is not possible to get a horse race fit in a water walker, a stuctured pre-training program will allow your horse to commence 3/4 pace work with free movement, minimal joint inflammation and little to no further cartilage breakdown. Supported with the right supplements such as glucosamine or medical treatments like Chondroitin, you will enhance the likelihood of your horse getting to the races in a strong physcial and mental condition.

Arthritis rarely goes away once present in a horse. However developing a training and supplement plan to properly manage arthitic conditions can extend your horses racing life and significantly improve performance.

Zatopaz Heads to Randwick

Aquagait rehabilitated stayer, Zatopaz will take his place in the Cellebrations Handicap over 2000m at Randwick on Saturday. This will be his third run back from an injury enforced layoff. Rhianna has been bringing her horses to Aquagait for casual visits since we opened in 2016. This, however was the first time she has sent us a horse to stay for an extended period.

Cobi arrived at Aquagait having not done too much work over the prior 3 months due to some recurring feet issues. Rhianna had subbed him in for a couple of events when her other horse had been unwell, outside of this it was pretty much paddock rest for Cobi. He arrived weighing 535kgs. (photo below)

Our program for Cobi was simple, regular exercise supported by quality nutrition. We started him off with some light water walker work. A typical day like this consists of 30 minutes on the walking machine pre and post exercise with 20 minutes on the water walker with the resistance jets turned off. Each afternoon Cobi would walk again for 30-45 minutes.

Once settled with this routine we increased his daily water walker workout to 30 minutes with the resistance jets on. This type of work gets a horses heart rate up over 120bpm for a prolonged period. To mix things up we gave him a couple of afternoon sessions under saddle on the track and a couple of incline walking sessions on the the treadmill.

Twelve days later Cobi's progression has been great. He left us today 10kgs lighter, looking and feeling great. Upon arrival back home Rhianna reported that he moved around his paddock with a freedom of movement she had never seen before. We love to get this feedback and it makes us feel very satisfied that even a short 12 day program can have such a positive impact.

Whilst our core business is focused on racehorse pre-training and rehab, all horses are welcome at Aquagait. Let's face it, they are expensive to build and maintain, not too many people know how to best use them and to get a return on your investment is not straight forward. So, in this Insights article we would like to share with you more about what we do to condition horses using our water walker and the benefits that come from it.

Simply explained, training in a water walker is resistance training for horses. Horses walk in a volume of water using their own strength to propel themselves through the water. This type of exercise has proven to have multiple benefits.

Additionally, you enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy as well. It is well documented for both humans and horses that hydrotherapy is terrific for muscle relaxation, it increases blood circulation which is vital in muscle recovery, aids in joint mobilisation (particularly arthritic conditions) and relieves stress / impact on the body.

Our water walker has unique functionality, we know of only two other walkers in Australia which have the same functionality. We have 4 high flow current pumps evenly distributed around the circumference of the walker. When switched on, these pumps create a significantly greater resistance or current for horses to walk against which stops any potential whirlpool effect.

The video below gives an indication of the strength of the current that can be directed against the horse to build both strength and endurance.

We concentrate on two main things when conditioning horses in our water walker.

Firstly, its about building muscle tone, strength and endurance through progressively increasing workload. For example most horses will start on a daily workout without any resistance pumps being used. Gradually over the course of the horses stay we will increase both the time of the workout and the intensity of the resistance. In our experience, we see the greatest improvement in muscle strength and tone through the horses hind quarters. Further, we have noted in many horses a much stronger and more developed top line in horses which use the walker regularly.

Secondly, its about building aerobic fitness. This is achieved through controlling the speed of the walker and the time spent working in it. Typically horses will start at 15 minutes or 20 minutes with a speed setting of 2.2kph. Gradually we will increase workout time to 30 minutes this combined with added resistance really gets the horse working. We have monitored horses heart rates at a range of different speeds and resistance levels and we are able to safely achieve sustained heart rates in excess of 120bpm for normal workouts, which is a robust aerobic workout for any horse. Importantly this is achieved with minimum stress or impact on joints and tendons.

Aside from the physical benefits, the mental stimulation and enjoyment horses derive from exercising in a water walker cannot be underestimated. This is particularly important if you are planning to send your horse to a water walker facility for a freshen up. Most of the horses we have conditioned at Aquagait (and we are talking in the 1000's) really enjoy the experience. It is most evident by the pouring and splashing and their physical demeanour when they are in the water.

Finally, it should be noted that we do not take a cookie cutter approach to conditioning horses on our water walker. Every horse will respond differently to the exercise and we closely monitor every horses condition and demeanour. If it’s not helping we will tell you straight up. For precision we measure their weight daily to ensure we achieve the desired outcome. For most horses in our care we incorporate a program of water walker exercise and controlled exercise on our equine treadmill to achieve the best results.

Staff Profile: Steve Wilson

People are at the heart of every business. It sets Australian racing apart from most of its peers in other jurisdictions around the world and is certainly a key difference between the thoroughbred and standardbred industry in Australia.

However, the question is sometimes asked; Are all these syndicators good for racing? Our answer is an overwhelming YES! There are many positive impacts that racehorse syndication has bought to the industry and in this opinion piece we will highlight our top three:1. Reduce Cost of Entry to Ownership Racing isn't known as the 'Sport of Kings' by chance. There is no question that owning a racehorse can be a costly exercise, with little or no return in some cases. For a metropolitan trainer to run a profitable business they now need to charge $100/day or more. And with the yearling sale market continuing to go from strength to strength even just buying a horse is expensive. Syndicators make entry into ownership for the new and/or uneducated participant so much more affordable and easy. They deliver greater understanding by providing information that is sometimes harder to obtain if you don't know the right people.2. Owner Experience and Communication With advances in technology, syndicators are now well placed to provide their owners with a terrific communication platform. In fact, the communication experience provided by syndicators is often the industry benchmark. Owners receive frequent updates on their horses progress either via a group audio message, email and often video. They frequency of updates is now so much better than in the past and syndicators can take much of the credit for the improvement in communication. Further to this many companies now add to this with a variety of exclusive events for their owners. Yearling parades, open days, tours and more are now fantastic events which many companies offer to their owners.

Leading bloodstock agent James Harron is a terrific example of this with his JHB Syndications business. Harron has opened up access to the inner workings of some of his trainers operations providing his owners with rare access.

Through other events such as open days all companies deliver a great service to their owners with access that is otherwise harder to gain. This level of communication and access adds to the wonderful experience of owning a race horse.3. Keeping Racing Relevant in the Mainstream It is not uncommon now for horses to have 20 owners, with in many cases each owner being able to secure a 5% share for a very affordable sum.

If you consider that hundreds of horses are now being syndicated every year this brings so many new people into the industry and means that there a significantly more 'water cooler' conversation happening in the workplace about someones horse racing on the weekend. As industry we now compete so heavily against every other mainstream sport or entertainment event to attract participation and attendance. Race horse syndication is such a valuable medium to broaden the reach of racing in the mainstream.

When you consider the success of so many syndicated horses in the nations elite races we now have so many more mainstream consumers experiencing what is perceived to be only for the 'elite'. Redzel, Sebring, She Will Reign, Theseo, Dothraki and the list goes on... all syndicated horses that have opened the gateway for the average to experience the elite.Buyer Beware Like anything, there are risks associated with buying a horse and things you should know when buying through a syndicator. To be clear, these are not negatives, just important information to be aware of upfront;

Additional Costs & Management Fees:Syndicating a horse costs money and like any business syndicators need to recover their costs to run a profitable business. So, know that when buying a share in a horse there are additional costs incurred to cover the management of the syndicate which will be passed on to you the owner. The best way to understand these costs is to read the product disclosure statement before choosing your horse.

Direct Access to your Trainer: This can be hard with syndicates. If your trainer has 5 syndicated horses is her/his stable with 20 owners each, talking to 100 people every week is simply not possible. Therefore, know that most of your communication will be via the syndication company or sent in the form of a group message. In our experience most companies do a terrific job of providing regular and accurate information to owners. They also do their best to provide exclusive experiences to their ownership groups through open days and other select events.

Influence and Decision Making: When you buy a share in a horse via a syndicate you must accept that your influence over decisions is limited and for good reason. When syndicators form relationships with trainers they do so because they trust the trainer and what they do. In most cases decisions about where and when the horse races, jockeys etc. will be left to the trainer. We recommend when buying into a horse you do so with a trainer whose reputation you trust, so you can focus on enjoying the experience.

Being involved in a racehorse is a great experience we recommend to anyone and everyone. Doing it partnership with some like minded friends as part of a syndicate can be a great social way to enjoy a day the races with friends.

A Proud Victory

Image: Julie WilsonThe Canberra Royal Show brings together many of the NSW and ACT’s horse community. A bold decision for a Kiwi who had a well established and successful training operation based in Canterbury, New Zealand.

Fast forward to last night and Butt is now the trainer of the fastest ever pacer in the Southern Hemisphere and the reigning Miracle Mile champion, arguably Australia’s greatest event for standardbred pacers. Bravo Tim and bravo My Field Marshal.

Since moving to Menangle Butt’s horses have been regular users of the Aquagait Water Walker. Every trainer uses our water walker for different purposes. Some use it on ‘off’ days instead of a jog, some use it as part of a 3 or 4 day cycle to mix up routines and others use it after race day to help their horses recover.

Butt however has been consistent with his approach, using it predominantly as cool down therapy post track work to all his horses in their recovery. My Field Marshal is just one of Butt’s horses that pretty much every second day spends 20 to 30 minutes post a track hit out cooling down on our Water Walker.

With only a modest yet growing number of horses in work, Butt has been extremely successful in his short time here. He has won a Miracle Mile, ran second in the Chariots of Fire and been a regular in the winners circle on most Tuesdays and Saturdays at Menangle.

We would like to thank Tim for his support and congratulate him and his team on their professional approach to training their horses. There is no doubt they will be a force for a long time to come.

Debunking The Myth

Too often it is said ‘I don’t have one that needs the water walker’ or ‘they (water walkers) are only good for sore or injured horses’.Opinions vary we say.We don’t dispute the premise that water walkers are an effective rehabilitation tool for injured horses, in fact we endorse it. Furthermore we strongly hold the view that it is not their primary function and would propose that fit and healthy horses get as much, if not more, benefit from using a water walker.

In simple terms a Water Walker is a form of weight training for horses. The resistance effect of walking in a large volume of water (100,000L +) is very similar to the resistance effect of a human lifting weights, building strength and power across the body. For horses, an equine water walker has the added benefit of cardiovascular exercise and the well documented benefits of hydrothearpy all at the same time.

Our water walker at Aquagait features four resistance pumps which allows us to provide increased resistance in a controlled manner whilst the horse exercises. With a variable speed of up to 7kph, at a high speed setting, horses easily get their heart rate in excess of 160bpm providing both high intensity strength conditioning and a very solid cardiovascular workout.

On any given day we have between 30 and 70 horses exercising on our water walker. A broad mix of thoroughbred, standardbred and sport horses. Only about 10% use it for injury rehabilitation. The rest are either in pre-training, having a freshen up or using it as part of a varied training regime.

Some of the best results we have achieved are with horses who need mental stimulation during a racing preparation without losing physcial condition.

So, if you have a horse that appreciates variety in its training regime or may need a quiet environment to commence its training preparation or that is 5 runs into a racing prep and needs something different, give a water walker a try!

Aquagait Equine Centre is proud to offer a variety of services to horses of all disciplines or breeds. We have extensive experience with thoroughbreds, standardbreds and sport performance horses. This is so wrong. Water Walkers provide numerous physcial and mental benefits to all horses regardless of whether they have some type of orthopaedic injury or not.

Hillary Step continues to validate one of those benefits which is the mental and physical therapeutic benefits that can extend a horses racing preparation, by providing low impact exercise and greater mental stimulation. In March we commissioned our high speed incline treadmill from which we have seen a sharp rise in pre-training numbers. Combining exercise on both our water walker and treadmill provides us with terrific options in varying intensity for pre-training and injury rehab. On the race track it's been great to see so many 'Aquagait Alumni', as we like to refer to them, enjoying success. There has been too many to list them all, however a few special mentions go to;

A terrific training performance by Clarry Conners to get Bolero King to win first up after a long lay off. Bolero King spent a few weeks pre-training at Aquagait prior to this preparation.Well done to Bryce Heys and connections of Boston Light who recently broke his maiden status after 10 days on the water walker. We were delighted to see the John Steinmetz trained Hilary Step produce back to back wins after a couple of freshen ups on the Water Walker.

We have also seen an increase in injury rehab patients which are always great challenges for us to take on and very rewarding experiences.

Thanks to Jason Attard for giving us the opportunity to care for Sons of John as he recovers from a leg injury. Trainers Barb Joseph & Paul Jones sent us Bank On Henry who really flourished at Aquagait and is now back in training with the leading Canberra duo.We also made our own purchase of the former Bjorn Baker trained stayer Zatopaz who suffered a serious tendon injury. After 4 months rehab solely in the water walker we are delighted with his progress. He has now begun walking with incline on the treadmill as we start to gradually increase the intensity of his rehab.

We continue to do a lot of work with standardbred and event horses. It's great to see many of our clients in both these disciplines having continued success with their horses! Special mention to one of our own team members Brooke Wilkins. Brooke works part time with us and also trains her own small team of 6 pacers. At just 20 years of age, this week Brooke trained her first winner with Allover Hanover saluting at Menangle Park. Brooke then followed this up with a training double in the very next race when Future Stride got the chocolates. Well done Brooke, we are very proud of you! There are no guarantees he will make it, however we intend to give him every opportunity.

It has now ticked over 10 weeks since Zatopaz arrived at Aquagait. Pleasingly he settled into his new environment extremely well, licking out his feed with monotonous regularity!!

The rehab journey began with 4 weeks of light exercise on the water walker, 20-30mins each morning. This was complimented by 90-120 mins of controlled walking each day on our walking machine. During this period Zatopaz was confined to further box rest when not exercising or having a quick roll in the sand a couple of times a week. To control his weight a measured feed of Hygain All Rounder pallets with chaff and hay was served up twice a day.

Following this, weeks 5 to 8 were focussed on increasing the intensity of his daily water walker routine, maintaining 90-120mins of controlled walking daily and continuing to control his nutrition to manage his weight which has remained between 515-520kgs.

Commencing from week 9, we have now incorporated the treadmill into the rehab program for Zatopaz. Every second day Zatopaz will walk at 6kph on the treadmill starting at an incline of 3° increasing to 6° over the 30min workout duration. Walking at an incline helps to condition and stretch the tendons in his front legs without putting any significant pressure on them. Following his treadmill session he warms down on the water walker for 20mins. On non treadmill days he spends 30mins on the water walker. Controlled walking for 90-120mins remains an essential part of his daily routine.

At the end of week 12 we will scan the tendon to understand what damage still exists and refine his rehab plan going forward. At this stage we are delighted with his progress, the affected tendon looks in great order and Zatopaz has shown no signs of lameness at any point.

Stay tuned for our next update post his 12 week scan.

Fell Swoop To Represent Inglis in The Everest

Canberra galloper Fell Swoop will contest the $10m The Everest as the Inglis slot representative. The Matt Dale-trained 5YO has won nine of his 23 starts and is five-time Group 1 placed – twice in the TJ Smith Stakes as well as the Oakleigh Plate, Darley Classic and Manikato Stakes. The Everest, in its inaugural year, will be the world’s richest race on turf when it’s run at Randwick on Saturday October 14. Prior to his injury as a 3yo, Bolero King ran third in the Listed Canberra Guineas and looked to be a progressive horse in the making. We are incredibly appreciative of all the support from our clients. There are too many of you to name and thank individually, so to all of you we simply say thanks so much for choosing Aquagait to condition your horse!

We welcomed some new clients this month including leading Warwick Farm trainer Jason Coyle. Jason's stable has been on fire in recent months, training 17 winners over the April & May period, at an average ROI of 25% which is great for punters that follow the stable. We also thank Angela Davies from the Central Coast. Angela only prepares a small team of horses and we thank her greatly for sending us several horses to pre train.

From the nations capital we thank Joe Cleary along with Paul Jones & Barb Joseph for choosing Aquagait. We already receive great support from Matthew Dale & Luke Pepper, so it great to have two more of the areas leading trainers working with us.

Our highlight for May was the success enjoyed by John Steinmetz with his ever improving mare Hillary Step. Following a brief freshen up at Aquagait in April, Hillary Step travelled to Nowra where she produced a strong finish to overrun her rivals. Following this, John then sent her back to Aquagait for 5 days of post race recovery on the Water Walker. At her next race start, some 26 days post her Nowra win, Hillary Step again got the chocolates with a strong 2.6L win at Bathurst. John only prepares a small team out of Warwick Farm and we are so happy to see him enjoying success. Full credit to John on his preparation and placement of the mare!

We were also quite chuffed to see Kudero salute at Randwick on May 27. Kudero has been a regular Aquagait and he is a lovely horse to do anything with. He had his freshen up with us in April and it was great to see him return in winning fashion and at juicy odds for punters. We congratulate Clarry Conners on preparing the 6yo son of Choisir to be ready to win off a 63 day break. Clarry is a great supporter of Aquagait and we thank him greatly for this support.

With so many horses in pre training across May we look forward to watching them return to the races in the coming weeks and months.

It was a relatively quiet month on the Harness scene with no feature racing and many of our trainers resting their key runners for the upcoming June features or Queensland winter carnival. David Thorn continued his good form with horses like Early Decision and Outrageous El flying the stable flag.

The leading training partnership of Shane & Lauren Tritton continued with their rehab of leading pacers Arms of Angel and Lombo Kotakinabaluh. Both horses use the Water Walker as part of their training/rehab process.

King of the claimers Leon Jurd has been a bit quieter as he replenishes his racing stock. Leon continues to be one of our most loyal clients and we look forward to him producing a new crop of claimers in the coming months.

The addition of our high speed treadmill has been a vitally important ingredient in the development of our pre training programs. We also incorporate the use of the treadmill in our injury rehab programs.

In May we also welcomed a new team member, Brooke Wilkins. Brooke is an accomplished young horse woman at just the tender age of 19. We are excited to have Brooke on our team and we have no doubt her caring nature and attention to detail will only compliment what we do.

Thanks for reading.

Meet Zatopaz

Last night we decided to put our money (albeit only a small amount) where our mouth is to give a lovely racehorse the best chance to return to racing.A 5yo son of Zabeel, Zatopaz is a half brother to ATC Derby Winner Nom De Jeu. After 2 impressive provincial wins she campaigned in Melbourne in the latter part of her spring prep, racing in the listed Crockett Stakes. Following this she has had some bone chips removed and is now working back up with us before returning to the stables of Scott Singleton. We wish Scott and part owner David Lopez all the best with her this time in.

Also in pre training with Aquagait is the very talented Clarry Conners trained galloper Dorf Star. A winner of 5 from 22 this Starcraft 4yo was able to string together 3 straight wins last prep, including 2 in a row at Warwick Farm. Dorfy, as we know him, has settled in really well at Aquagait and has taken to his work on the water walker like a seasoned pro. We are confident he is in for another good preparation.

Turning to Harness Racing and it has been great to see the ongoing success of many horses trained locally at Menangle Park who regularly use our water walker as part of their training regime.

David Thorn has enjoyed great success with recently acquired pacer Early Decision winning 2 of his last 3. As well, Outrageous El has been in great form for the stable winning 3 of his last 7 and a close up 4th in a group 2 race on Miracle Mile day.

King of the claimers Leon Jurd continues to enjoy a great season. Just about every horse in Leon's stable uses the water walker multiple times throughout the week and his ability to mentally freshen up aged horses and return them to winning form has been amazing. Jurd has trained over 40 winners already this season, with a further 70 placings all with modestly priced claimers. We appreciate Leon's ongoing support and admire his success at using our water walker to condition his horses.

We also want to congratulate the leading NSW training partnership of Shane & Lauren Tritton on the wins of Mysweetchilliphilly in the Group 1 Bathurst Gold Tiara and the Group 3 Pink Bonnet Stakes for 2yo fillies. Shane and Lauren have prepared this filly to the minute and use the water walker as part of her fast work and race day recovery. She was super impressive winning her maiden G1 by 20m at Bathurst in a mile rate of 1.54.7 and there is no doubt she will be featuring in some of the major futurity races later in the season.

Fresh for Success

The ongoing success of trainers winning with horses fresh from a short break at Aquagait has continued.
