It may have only been a restricted Friday night race at Canterbury but tonight the John Steinmetz trained Hillary Step produced a defiant all the way performance to win at her ninth start this preparation.
One of the greatest myths about Water Walkers is that they are only for injured horses. This is so wrong. Water Walkers provide numerous physcial and mental benefits to all horses regardless of whether they have some type of orthopaedic injury or not.
Hillary Step continues to validate one of those benefits which is the mental and physical therapeutic benefits that can extend a horses racing preparation, by providing low impact exercise and greater mental stimulation. On multiple occasions this prep her trainer John Steinmetz has sent Hillary Step to us for anywhere between 4-10 days just to help her recover from her previous run and keep her ticking over before her next start.
After several unlucky runs in ‘town’ jockey Deanne Payna decided to control the race from in front, knowing Hillary Step had a conditioning edge being her ninth run this prep and coming off a 6 day freshen up at Aquagait.
We would like to both congratulate trainer John Steinmetz on his training ability and decision making to get the best out of Hillary and thank him for his ongoing support.
Well done John, we are so happy for you.
